Daily program: Adventures in the Wild West of the USA
Day 1: Los Angeles, CA
Today the journey into the Wild West begins! After checking into your hotel, you will meet your tour guide and your travel group. A delicious dinner at one of our favorite places and plenty of sleep should prepare you for tomorrow's ride.
Day 2: Los Angeles - Palm Springs, CA
After our shared breakfast at the hotel, the big moment arrives: We will take you to the center to pick up your machine. After a brief introduction, we will head southwest and cruise on winding mountain roads towards Lake Elsinore. After the lunch break, we breathe in the fresh air while we make our way upwards through hilly roads in the San Bernardino National Forest. Our departure to Palm Springs is spectacular, and we will enjoy our first night among the palm trees and, upon arrival, experience the nightlife of the city.
Day 3: Palm Springs, CA - Laughlin, NV
Today we allow ourselves to be enchanted by the spectacular landscape and fantastic rock formations in Joshua Tree National Park. From here we will drive to Twenty Nine Palms and fall into the expanse of the Mojave Desert. After that, our journey takes on a legendary impulse as we ride on the historic 'Route 66', which starts at the famous Roy’s Motel in Amboy. We will stay on Route 66 for the rest of the day as we cross the desert, pass the state border into Nevada, and arrive in Laughlin, where we will spend tonight.
Day 4: Laughlin, NV - Grand Canyon, AZ
We continue on the legendary Route 66 to Arizona, stopping for wildlife in Oatman, and then proceed to Kingman, known as the 'Heart of Historic Route 66', as it lies in the middle of the longest remaining stretch of the old mother road. From Kingman, we drive to Seligman, another existing part of Route 66, which leads us into a ring road through the Indian Reservation 'Hualapai'. After our lunch break in Seligman, the tour continues toward the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Get ready for one of the most breathtaking views in the canyon.
Day 5: Grand Canyon, AZ - Monument Valley (Kayenta), AZ
In the morning, we enjoy the fantastic views at the Grand Canyon before continuing along the south rim and then leaving the Grand Canyon National Park at the east entrance. The motorcycle trip then takes us to the incredible Monument Valley. The land of the Navajos, a classic landscape of the Wild West in Arizona with its red sandstone, a spectacle of color effects and geological formations that peek out from an expanse of seemingly endless quicksand. It is only when we arrive at Monument Valley that we realize how much our perception of the Wild West has actually been shaped by this landscape. Such a landscape certainly exists in other parts of the world, but it seems to be nowhere as unique as here. This evening we will descend into the valley and let ourselves be treated by our tour guide in Navajo with a traditional dinner.
Day 6: Monument Valley (Kayenta), AZ - Bryce Canyon, UT
From Kayenta, today's tour takes us to the 'sleeping Mexican hat', in short a hectic gold mining camp named after a stone that looked like a sombrero. We drive through the 'Valley of the Gods', where scenes from 'Thelma and Louise' were filmed. We cross the 'Colorado River' at the point where it flows into Lake Powell. Lake Powell has a coastline of over 3150km, more than the entire Pacific coast of the USA, considering the 96 water-filled side canyons. We drive along the southern tip of Capitol Reef National Park, over aspen-covered peaks along the yellow-brown sandstones of the 'Devil’s Backbone', through the wilderness of Escalante, until we finally arrive at Bryce Canyon in Utah, where we will spend the night.
Day 7: Bryce Canyon, UT - Las Vegas, NV
This morning we have time to visit the wonderful Bryce Canyon before continuing to Zion National Park. Not only will we see the most beautiful rock formations in the world, but we also have a challenging ride ahead of us - the switchbacks of Zion! Compared to Yosemite and the Grand Canyon, Zion radiates a stronger sense of nature. From here it is just a short drive to the neon and gaming paradise of Las Vegas.
Day 8: Las Vegas, NV
Today is a day to relax, play, explore - whatever your heart desires.
Day 9: Las Vegas, NV - Mammoth Lakes, CA
Early in the morning we start our motorcycle tour from Las Vegas heading west and crossing Death Valley, the hottest place on earth! There is almost no shade there. At the same time, Death Valley is also a place of subtle beauty. The sun-drenched golden shimmering sand dunes, the colorful wildflowers, and the surrounding mountains quickly immerse the visitor in a peculiar harmonious mood. After we have navigated all the curves and fallen some meters below sea level, we find ourselves in the basin of Death Valley. From there we head west on breathtaking roads that lead us out of the valley and into the foothills of the magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountains. From the deepest point in the United States, more than 30m below sea level, to the ski resort 'Mammoth Lakes' over 2130m high. What a day!
Day 10: Mammoth Lakes, CA - Yosemite National Park, CA
When we leave Mammoth Lakes, we travel a little further north and then cross the Tioga Pass to enter Yosemite National Park. The first few kilometers require all our muscle power and we should not take our eyes off the road as we drive through winding granite gorges into the breathtaking national park. Yosemite promises many pictures and raises expectations to dizzying heights. The national park is stunningly beautiful, grand, wild, and peaceful, and will bring amazing memories. We will spend tonight in El Portal.
Day 11: Yosemite National Park, CA - San Francisco, CA
Today we will leave Yosemite National Park again and drive through California's 'Gold Rush' land to San Francisco. We pass small mining towns, such as Groveland, and the winding roads of Old Priest Grade. Then we arrive in the coastal region of Marin County, which gives us a very clear introduction to the Californian lifestyle. Striking luxury, ample natural beauty, sunshine, sandy beaches, mountains, and redwood forests. Marin is often touted as the richest county in the USA. From here we can already catch a first glimpse of San Francisco's most famous landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge. After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and driving along the marina, we have arrived at our home for the next two nights, at Fisherman’s Wharf.
Day 12: San Francisco, CA
Today is free to explore the beautiful city. San Francisco, a crazy, individualistic, surprisingly small place - certainly one of the most tolerant cities in the USA. San Francisco has a European flair and many attractions to offer. From excursions to Napa Valley, Alcatraz, city tours on the city bus, streetcar rides, bike tours, or simply walking along the streets to discover the culture and perspectives of the city that make this wonderful city, San Francisco has a lot to offer.
Day 13: San Francisco, CA - Monterey, CA
Today we leave San Francisco and head south on the legendary Pacific Coast Highway, Highway 1, which surrounds the rugged California coastline - one of the best motorcycle routes in the world. The coastal road is simply spectacular and we will often stop to photograph the view. Breathtaking views of the waves of the Pacific accompany us on the way to Monterey. Monterey is known for the motorcycle and car racing track Laguna Seca, as well as the impressive Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Day 14: Monterey, CA - Pismo Beach, CA
From Monterey, our motorcycle journey continues on Highway 1, at the edge of the cliffs of the Big Sur Coast. 90 wild and unspoiled miles of rocky cliffs create an extraordinary landscape. It looks as if red foliage is lining the river gorges and as if the Santa Lucia Mountains are growing out of the blue-green Pacific. About halfway through the Big Sur coast, you'll come to Esalen. Esalen is named after an Indian tribe that enjoyed a hot spring on top of a cliff here. We ride past San Simeon, stopping there to see a seal elephant colony and winding our way through Cambria and Morro Bay until we arrive in Pismo Beach.
Day 15: Pismo Beach, CA - Los Angeles, CA
Today we take Highway 101 and set off towards Los Angeles, surrounded on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on the other by the coastal mountains. After a coffee break in Santa Barbara, we get back on the highway and cruise directly to Malibu, the famous beach settlement where many stars live. Santa Monica is the largest and oldest resort in Los Angeles - once it was a wild playground on the beach, today it is a laid-back, tolerant, and healthy community. Venice Beach is probably the reason many people travel to Venice - nowhere else do people from LA strut as openly as on the pathway of the boardwalk in Venice. From here we drive to Hawthorne, where our headquarters are located. It is time to return the motorcycles and head to the hotel. During a final group dinner, we can reflect on the motorcycle journey once more.
Day 16: Los Angeles, CA
Today is the day of departure from Los Angeles. We hope you had an adventurous Wild West motorcycle trip and would be delighted to accompany you on further adventures in the coming years. We would be happy to help arrange an extension of your vacation in Los Angeles or the surrounding area.
